I’m taking care of my sis’s kid for a while and sometimes-when he’s napping-my kids will start crying for no apearant reason. Is it wrong to punish them? Please note:crying is not the same as throwing a tantrum, but THE BABY’S crying.
What should I do? I don’t want my sis to be mad.
depends on how old they are
Yes it’s wrong. There is obviously something wrong with them and you need to find out what it is. You shouldn’t punish them for being upset about something. Instead you should find out what it is and fix it. You are supposed to be tending to their needs.
Well, you have to take into account the age of your own children and how you would have felt if you were the mother of an infant whose sleep was getting disturbed because older children are crying. If you can’t figure out what your kids are crying about, take them as far away from where the baby is sleeping and talk to them and spend some time with them. Generally this sort of behavior is a child’s way of getting attention. Perhaps your kids just want a little more of your time. You don’t need to spank or give them time out for just crying, if it’s screaming and verging on a temper tantrum, then you might consider some sort of punishment, but it just sounds like your kids are trying to get your attention.
Also if you can’t figure out what they’re crying about and they won’t tell you don’t be afraid to say “I’ll be happy to talk to you when you stop crying” then walk away from them. This gives them the responsibility and makes them realize they have a choice in the matter.
Good luck!
I have to agree with MM. it would depend on WHY they are crying,
