Helping Baby Sleep – Tips to Get Your Newborn to Sleep Through the Night
One of the most common questions new parents try and find out is how to get their newborn to sleep through the night. Sleep is such an important part of our daily lives that it’s important to try and figure out how to get a good amount each night. With a newborn around, it can be hard to try and get the right amount of sleep.
Let’s take a look at a couple of tips you can try while helping baby sleep better, and you to get the best amount of rest.
Mom Scent Their Security Object:
Most babies will have a security object that they feel safe around. It can be a blanket, a stuffed animal or any other object. Generally baby will want to sleep with this security object, however, when they don’t need it keep it around Mom as much as possible.
Mom’s scent will rub off on it, and since babies startle awake quite often, but also have incredible smell, that scent will stay around leaving the baby comfortable and more relaxed since they’ll think Mom is around them.
Associate A Sleeping Area:
If they fall asleep or about to fall asleep move them to their designated sleeping area. This will help your baby associate being in this area as a time for relaxation.
Distinguish a Difference Between Day Time Feedings and Night Time Feedings:
Newborns need to eat around the clock, no doubt about it. However, by making a solid difference between day time and night time feedings you can help the baby associate the differences between day and night.
For example, while feeding during the day, greatly interact and give lots of attention. Sing, play, talk, do whatever you can to show your baby affection and attention. Let them realise that day time is for being awake and playing.
If you need to feed at night, do the opposite. Try not to interact with your child, just simply feed, and let them go back to sleep. This will help them learn that night time is for relaxing, and quiet time.
These tips aren’t all that you can do to help your child sleep through the night. In fact, there are a lot of other factors that can play a role in how well your child sleeps.
